Driving Transformation Through Sustainable and Slow Fashion Choices - Herbally

As we have established already, our clothes have be polluting the environment constantly. The Earth is reacting to this change in its nature. Disasters such as the global warming and climate change is slowly helping more and more people realise that if this goes on then we won’t have a planet to exist. It is up to us to do something to help change the situation we are in. Since about 40%-45% of total clothes made are cotton, there is a lot of demand for it and this brings up expectation for the cotton farmers as they cannot let the crop be harmed, the industry depends on it. For that reason, farmers take up measures such as pesticides that contain chemicals that do keep pests away from crops but in the process, pollute the soil. Sooner or later, the pests and insects are going to grow immune to the pesticides we use and then we might have to use something stronger to keep those away. When are we going to give a chance for Earth to regain what it has lost? The problem isn’t just the growth but also adding colour to the fabric we have made. Dyeing clothes also releases a lot of waste. Not only is the clean water that was used to dye is wasted ( which is a lot, about 500 gallons for a piece of cloth) but also the water body that the treated water is released into. Pollution is unavoidable and it’s happening on a huge scale around the globe.

Some people who have realised this have started using more environmentally friendly products such as organic cotton but it still has a long way to go. Another alternative that has come forward is something called as Ayurvastra. Although it is something new to the world, it has been a part of the Indian culture since ages, especially in Kerala. Ayurvastra not only helps the environment but also infuses the goodness of Ayurveda, an ancient practice of medicine consisting of herbs and plants instead of chemically manufactured medicines. It uses organic cotton or jute as the primary fabric to make clothes but that’s not all, it also has naturally made dyes to colour the clothes. These dyes are a mixture of different herbs that also give a medicinal value to the cloth it is being applied to. Now here’s a product that not only helps improve nature but also helps the person using the garment. It’s completely chemical free.

We have the chance to help mature for once so let’s take that step. Let’s start with our clothes. Re-discover the magic of Ayurvastra, not only for the planet but for you as well.
